Bair Art Edition's Tutorial on:
Epson Professional Printing Workflow

Suggested Printer Settings

The printing workflow that works best, at least in our opinion, is to use Adobe Photoshop v6.0 or higher, with the print preview menu and Epson's printer driver. It is true that 3rd party RIPs (Raster Image Processors) often give more control, so you might consider using one of them.

However, if you can't afford a RIP (averaging $1,200), the settings we use may be valuable to you. (We do use a rip as well, but not always).

A forewarning: we will be using ICC profiles in this tutorial! Your printer should have come with a software CD ROM containing epson's profiles. If you us a Macintosh, Epson's profiles were (or should have been) automatically installed on your system. If you use a PC, you will have to copy them off manually.

If this is the case, insert the CD and search for ".icm" or ".icc" (as the extension) to find them on the disk. Once found, place them in the following folders (depending on your system):

Mac OS 9.2.2 System Folder / ColorSync Profiles
Mac OS X Library / ColorSync / Profiles
Windows 98 & Me Windows / System / Color
Windows NT, 2000, & XP Winnt / System32 / Spool / Drivers / Color

Sometimes, however, I've found that the "Windows 98" location above, works for XP and 2000 as well.

Install the profiles now, you will see this information come up again when it is needed.
