Bair Art Edition's Tutorial on: Epson Professional Printing Workflow
Sprays to Protect Prints
With a multitude of sprays out there, it would be impossible to profile every one of them, so we'll just tell you about the one that we like the most, which is also practically the only one we use.
It is: Premier Art Image Shield
If you want to learn about other spray options go to InkJetArt's spray and protection page. To learn about this Print Shield, just keep reading.
Sprays are often a good idea because they protect against scratches, moisture, UV fading, and other atmospheric conditions, oxygen being probably the most detrimental of all the above.
Some sprays are like a coating of polypropylene, and although they are basically "solid," they also can change the texture and finish of the print.
We've found that Premier Art Print Shield fights against all the problems listed above, while maintaining the texture and finish of the print. In other words, you can use it to protect against a matte surface, and it will remain matte!
Other benefits: Print Sheild usually enhances the richness of prints. What appears as a slightly milky black on some glossy papers with photo inks, becomes more of a rich, jet black with Print Sheild applied. Also, it virtually removes any signs of gloss differential, also known as "bronzing."
Gloss differential is the problem that occurs with glossy, luster, or semigloss prints when printed with pigmented inks. When viewed under direct light, the highlights go completely white, and all other tones become "bronzed," or very dark and dull. Print Shield provides an even surface for reflective light, and gets rid of this phenomenon.
Note: Before applying a spray to a glossy or luster "ceramic" paper, first "cure" the paper in order to have all of the excess glycol removed. This problem is called "Out-Gassing," click to learn more.
To purchase the Print Shield go to InkJetArt's Premier Art Print Shield page.
The Other Finishing Touches Are:
- How to Trim Efficiently - Trimming can be a pain, but here is a great tip on making it less painful.
- How to Take Out the Curl - Prints off of roll paper are so economical, but what about that annoying curl? See how the D-Roller gets rid of it in seconds! I also offer an alternative method that isn't as instantaneous.
