How To Correct White Balance, Exposure,
and Color Shifts When Printing
This tutorial has been created in an effort to give Bair Art Editions customers information on how they can best prepare their images for printing. We receive countless digital files that have been altered in one way or another, and some methods and techniques used by our custmers result in headaches for everyone. Here are some of the ways we suggest that you correct for exposure and color USING LAYERS.
If you are a Bair Art Editions customer or not, you will benefit from using these techniques. Your images will be altered in a way that allows you to revert to the original at anytime, and then go back to the retouched layer.
Be sure to first read "Using Layers," the concept of layers, and especially adjustment layers, will be applied in every portion of this tutorial. The rest of the contents can be read in any order, but do build upon each other in the order listed.

In this digital age, the graphic arts industry has been endowed with powerful tools. In our opinion, Adobe Photoshop (available at www.adobe.com) is by far the most powerful tool for lighting and color adjustments.
This tutorial will be using Adobe Photoshop version 7.0, however most, if not all, of the features that will be discussed are also available in earlier versions (such as 5.0 - 6.0). All of the graphics, including the pop-up windows, will be off of a Macintosh (usually in OSX), but again, the same features are applicable to the Windows operating systems.
This is not meant to be a definitive tutorial on photoshop, for more basic and/or futher application of Photoshop, consider purchasing Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Classroom in a Book. However, this tutorial does combine all of the techniques for correcting color and exposure in photoshop that our staff has ever come accross.
